The Flute is played in the Band. It is a Woodwind Instrument and sound is created when you blow into the instrument. The primarily is responsible for the higher sounds and faster-moving rhythms.

CLARINET

The Clarinet is a Woodwind instrument and plays in all Band ensembles. It uses a reed to create the sound. The Clarinet usually has the melody and plays fast-moving musical passages.

TRUMPET

The Trumpet is the highest sounding brass instrument in Band. Sound is creating by buzzing your lips and moving the valves. The Trumpet often plays the melody in the Band.

The Trombone is the largest brass instrument in the 5th Grade Band. Sounds are made by buzzing your lips and moving the slide. Trombone players read Bass Clef.

ALTO SAXOPHONE

The Alto Saxophone is part of the Woodwind family in the Band. Saxophonists play in many different band ensembles and have the opportunity to play other saxophones later on like Tenor Sax and Baritone Saxophone. Sound is made by using a reed.

PERCUSSION

Percussionists learn to play 2 instruments during 5th grade band. They learn the bells/xylophone and drum pad. We recommend percussionists have prior experience reading music.
